View article in PDF FormatIn a Sunday morning gathering of 85 brethren, Pastor Ian Boyne and Deacon Paul O’Connor baptised six new members into God’s church, at the YMCA facilities, in Kingston.
The six; Celia Thompson, Almira Pinnock, Hayden Walcott, Elmahgatha Perry, Angelina Franklin, and Perez Mortimer will, for the first time, partake of the Passover in two days time, along with a former WCG member who was received into fellowship with the CGI on Sabbath, April 4.
After an opening session of vibrant singing, Pastor Boyne congratulated those who had made the decision to answer God’s call.
He noted that these were particularly challenging times, and that it would be harder for those who were being called now to live faithfully because of the economic and other difficulties being experienced. It was going to be harder to be a faithful Sabbath keeper, tithes payer, and holyday keeper, due to the need to maintain one’s livelihood, especially in a depressed Jamaican economy. He commended their faith, which he said, led them to believe that God would sustain them despite the current adverse circumstances. He also gave the assurance that God was able keep them no matter what.
The candidates were then baptised, as the joyous singing continued throughout. Pastor Boyne prayed generally for the group, after which he and Deacon O’Connor performed the laying on of hands individually, as they prayed that the new members would receive God’s Holy Spirit
There was much rejoicing as the brethren assembled welcomed the new members, and pledged their support and prayers for them. The celebratory atmosphere was an expression of gratitude for the fruits being borne by the ongoing evangelism programmes led by Pastor Boyne. Actively fulfilling the Great Commission of making disciples is a central feature of the Jamaican work.
Emphasising that we are called not just to blind one another with the light of God’s truth, but to spread the light of the gospel to the world, Pastor Boyne keeps evangelistic initiatives a priority.
The baptism of these new members will be a great source of rejoicing during the eagerly anticipated Passover celebrations, starting this week. GS.
